Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to contribute to this special issue of the Journal of Men’s Health that focuses on contemporary issues surrounding testicular cancer (TC). The range of topics can vary across the entire spectrum from primary preventive sciences and diagnosis to treatment and palliative care.

Approximately 80% of all testicular cancer cases are found in males under the age of 45. The disease has a 95-99% five-year survival rate when discovered in earlier stages; however, these rates decrease by nearly 25% in more advanced cases. TC survivors are at an increased risk for numerous adverse health outcomes because of TC’s unique treatment. For example, TC survivors are subject to mental (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety) and physical health concerns (e.g., hormonal imbalances, impotence, fatigue, overweight/obesity) that adversely affect their health-related quality of life from immediately post-treatment up to several years post-treatment. In fact, at least 20% of TC survivors need psychological support up to a decade after initial treatment. Needless to say, there is a growing need for further studies regarding this disease.

We welcome your contributions to this very special issue on testicular cancer. It will provide a unique opportunity to disseminate research on the following topics:

· Primordial and primary prevention strategies

· Self-examination and screening

· Diagnosis and staging

· Treatment (chemo and radiation therapies and surgery)

· Palliative care

We welcome both original studies (both qualitative and quantitative), as well as reviews and meta-analyses. Technical papers focusing on public health policy and implementation are also welcome.
